Crushed

£190.00

Patterns made in the snow are unpredictable. When I was thinking about how I could interpret the snow patterns in cloth, it seemed appropriate that I used a similarly unpredictable process called ‘breakdown printing’ or ‘deconstructed screen printing’. This led to a whole series of black and white original art, inspired by the winter landscape. The fabric used in this print is made from a unique print that would be impossible to reproduce.

People, vehicles and animals all disturb the snow when they move through it. In ‘Crushed’ I wanted to explore how I could incorporate the physical displacement of the snow in the work. The screen printed fabric was stitched around individual blocks and attached to a background. The blocks nearest the disturbance are placed at an angle but cracks are showing in the rest of the snow o the side too. Unusually, in this series the work does not have any stitching.
