Over the Horizon
Patterns made in the snow are unpredictable. When I was thinking about how I could interpret the snow patterns in cloth, it seemed appropriate that I used a similarly unpredictable process called ‘breakdown printing’ or ‘deconstructed screen printing’. This led to a whole series of black and white original art, inspired by the winter landscape. This is a unique print which would be impossible to reproduce.
The idea for ‘Over the Horizon’ came out of my many design explorations in the theme. I really like the random patterns juxtaposed on the relatively plain background. I think of snow being trapped in the tyre treads and releasing it later on a clean section of road. Although the background looks relatively plain, it’s actually created by printing and over printing a tyre pattern.
