Desert Landscape Wall Art: Xenotopia II

£430.00

The vast open spaces of the Salt Flats, in the Atacama Desert, Chile inspired my series of desert landscape art. This was like nowhere else I had been before. The salt crystals were rock hard and the atmosphere very hot and I can imagine myself back there when I look at this work.

The fabric for this piece was created by printing and overprinting the salt crystal shapes onto the fabric. Sometimes I used processes to remove colour and then over printed again. Although this work is a simplified view of the desert landscape, the numerous layers of printing create a complex cloth which would be difficult to replicate, even for me.

The rocky outcrops often seen in the distance have been suggested with square shaped stitches, a similar shape to that of the salt crystal.

If you have any questions about the work, then please contact me and I’ll be pleased to help.
